No Valentine's Day cards for Dublin 4-Doolan
Published: 13 February, 2008
Sinn Féin's Councillor Daithí Doolan, has today revealed, "that residents in parts of Dublin 4 may not get any Valentine's Day cards tomorrow because bosses at An Post have cut staff in the local sorting office by 30%."
Speaking this morning, Cllr. Doolan said:
"Local residents and An Post staff have contacted me complaining about new staff cuts which are effecting the delivery of post in certain areas of Dublin 4. A new system, Collect & Delivery, has been introduced by management, which has cut sorting staff from 16 to 9 and the delivery staff from 41 to 27. The new system allows for 'Collapsible Routes' whereby routes in Beechill, Donnybrook and Ringsend simply go unattended for days until the businesses in the area receive their mail first. "
In conclusion Cllr. Doolan demanded:
"I will be contacting Minister Eamonn Ryan demanding that this two tier system be abolished . The situation must be resolved as a matter of urgency. All staff must be replaced immediately ensuring all routes receive the same proper service."
