Residents summons Minister Gormely to court-Doolan

Published: 23 January, 2008

Sinn Féin's Dublin Environment Spokesperson, Councillor Daithí Doolan, has today praised the residents of Ringsend who have, "summonsed Minister for Environment John Gormley to court for breaches of EU regulations in how his department has attempted to railroad an incinerator into Dublin."

Speaking this morning, Cllr. Doolan said:

"The Combined Residents Against Incineration have issued a summons to Minister Gormley, the Dublin City Council & An Bord Pleanála. These bodies must now respond within 8 days and clarify if they will contest the charges in court."

Cllr. Doolan explains:

"The summons clearly outlines that Minister Gormley, Dublin City Council and An Bord Pleanála have all been in direct breach of EU regulations in their attempts to impose an incinerator here in Ringsend."

In conclusion Cllr. Doolan demanded:

"It is now time for those involved, particularly Dublin City Council & Minister Gormley, come clean and bin the incinerator proposal. To date Dublin City Council's public relations machine has cost €19m, any further cost contesting the case would be totally unacceptable."
