Sinn Féin Councillors from Wicklow and South Dublin will join a protest at the Annual General Meeting of South Dublin County Council tomorrow afternoon at 2:30pm. The protest has been organised to call on the Council to call off plans to incinerate seven cylinders of the highly toxic chemical Hydrogen Cyanide in the Wicklow Mountains. Read full article

Commenting on new figures from the National Treatment Purchase Fund showing over 16,000 adults and children waiting more than three months for surgery and over 2,000 waiting for longer than a year, Sinn Féin's Tallaght based representative and campaigner to maintain and upgrade services at Tallaght Hospital Seán Crowe said it is clear that Health Minister Mary Harney is incapable of delivering a first class health service and should resign. Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has welcomed the Intoxicating Liquor Bill 2008. However Deputy Ó Snodaigh was critical of the Government's failure to act on recommendations made by the Strategic Task Force on Alcohol in 2004. Deputy Ó Snodaigh went on to call for the establishment of Local Licensing Fora to play a key role in licensing decisions and for mandatory training with accreditation for bouncers and bar staff. Speaking in the Dáil today on the Prison Development Bill 2008 Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD raised serious concerns about the development of super-prisons in which he said gangs will flourish. Deputy Ó Snodaigh was also critical of the proposed development of a super-prison at Thornton Hall and the Public Private Partnership arrangements under which it is to be constructed. Dublin 15 Sinn Féin Councillor Paul Donnelly has welcomed this week's proposals from the Local Electoral Area Boundary Committee that will see the Mulhuddart ward gaining an extra councillor. Whilst welcoming the proposals, Cllr. Donnelly commented that they were long overdue and indicated that the party locally were excited at the prospect of securing a second seat next time out in the re-drawn Castleknock ward. Speaking today health workers held protests against hospital cuts, Deputy Ó Snodaigh revealed that staff have been let go from Urology, Neurology, Dieticians and Pastoral Care while porters are expecting to be laid off this week.
