Sinn Féin MEP Mary Lou McDonald called on workers and trade unionists to reject the Lisbon Treaty on the basis that it fails to provide essential protections for workers rights. Ms. Donald said that only following negotiations that redressed these shortcomings could the treaty be in any way acceptable to Irish workers. Ms McDonald was joined at the press

Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has welcomed the formal adoption of an international treaty banning the use of cluster bombs. Speaking today after the treaty was passed in Dublin Deputy Ó Snodaigh congratulated those involved in the campaign and said US Military flights passing through Shannon should now be inspected not only for evidence of illegal renditions but for cluster munitions. Dublin South West Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh has called on the Government to stop the cut of 120 staff at Crumlin Chilldren's Hospital. Speaking in the Dáil today as staff members and supporters of the hospital staged a protest the hospital outside Deputy O Snodaigh said the Government must respond positively to the demonstration by stopping
the cuts and addressing the excessive waste of money by the HSE on unnecessary advisors and endless reports. Read full article

Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD today asked the new Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern to support a request from the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission to review the Garda approach to policing protests including the operation at the site of the proposed Shell Gas pipeline in Bellanaboy County Mayo in light of a high number of complaints about Garda abuse. Dublin City Council last night supported Sinn Féin Councillor Ray Corcoran's motion on behalf of the locked out Ballymun Plaza workers. Cllr Corcoran's motion called on the government to introduce guidelines for companies involved in regeneration schemes. The motion also called on the company involved, Bennet construction, to secure in any new lease a clause under the Transfer of Undertakings regulations which would see all workers re-hired at the hotel under new management.
