Public understanding of Lisbon can be improved - McDonald

Sinn Féin Dublin MEP Mary Lou McDonald today called on all stakeholders in Irish society to act on the Referendum Commission survey results which show a majority of the population are still unsure as to what the Lisbon Treaty is about. Ms McDonald said "we have a little over six weeks before the referendum is held and much can be done to ensure people get a broad understanding of what the Treaty contains and its implications for Ireland and Europe." Rosslare cannabis seizure welcomed - Ó Snodaigh

Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has welcomed the seizure of €8 million worth of cannabis in Rosslare this morning. Speaking today Deputy Ó Snodaigh said the cannabis market makes up a significant proportion of the overall illegal drugs market in Ireland and is a market for which criminals are more than willing to kill their rivals to maintain control. Fingal Do Not Have License to Proceed With Tolka Sewer

Blanchardstown Sinn Féin Councillor Paul Donnelly has revealed that Fingal County Council cannot proceed with their proposed sewer which will destroy the Tolka Valley Park as they have not applied for the necessary licenses. The Council requires licenses from the National Parks & Wildlife Service to proceed with the development. Read full article

Dublin Sinn Féin activists will be protesting tomorrow morning outside the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Northwood, Santry, venue of a Private Health Conference which will be addressed by the Minister for Health Mary Harney. Legislation required to criminalise dial-a-drink services - Ó Snodaigh

Speaking today as the Taoiseach and the Minister for Justice prepared to launch proposals to tackle problems with rising alcohol consumption, Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD called on the Government to bring forward legislation to criminalise dial a drink services with payment on delivery. Threat to Blanchardstown Pharmacies 'Heavy Handed'

BLANCHARDSTOWN Sinn Féin Councillor Paul Donnelly has described a threat bythe HSE to Blanchardstown Pharmacies as heavy handed and not conducive to resolving the ongoing dispute. Chemists across Blanchardstown received solicitor's letters giving them until 5.30pm yesterday (21st April) to confirm in writing that they will continue to dispense medication under the Drug Refund Scheme and General Medical Scheme. Planning for Dublin's Future -Doolan

On Tuesday 22nd April 2008 Dublin City Council will host a conference in Croke Park Conference Centre as part of City Council's future strategy for developing Dublin's potential both socially and economically. The document Maximising the City's Potential-A Strategy for Intensification and Height has already been published and this conference is part of the public consultation process. Speaking in Ballymun today Sinn Féin Councillor Dessie Ellis criticised the management and owners of the Ballymun Plaza Hotel which closed it's doors this morning, with the loss of jobs for 65 people. Dublin South West Sinn Féin TD Aengus Snodaigh has called for an immediate reversal of HSE plans to reduce the number of respite beds at Cherry Orchard Hospital from 24 to 12. European Commission President, address to the National Forum on Europe said '"No matter how damaging this issue is for the Irish government the President of the European Commission José Manuel Barosso cannot rule out harmonising corporate tax across the EU. Tolka Valley Destruction to Proceed - Donnelly Slams Reneging

BLANCHARDSTOWN Sinn Féin Councillor Paul Donnelly has slammed the decision to proceed with the destruction of Tolka Valley Park with the construction of a two-metre wide sewer pipe through the heart of the valley. Tallaght unemployment figures highlight government neglect-Crowe

Speaking in Tallaght today, Sinn Féin Representative for Dublin South-West Seán Crowe said that the latest unemployment figures show clearly that Tallaght and its Hinterland is facing increased unemployment at a much higher rate than the national average and that the response from Government TD's and their political parties had been abysmal. The Tallaght based representative said that" a sticking plaster approach to jobs hemorrhaging won't work and radical solutions need to be found to hold on to existing jobs and attract new industry. Drug seizures and arrests welcomed - Ó snodaigh

Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh has congratulated Gardaí on the second seizure of a major quantity of drugs in Dublin in two days. Two men were arrested today in the Bluebell area after the seizure of €60,000 worth of heroin and cocaine while four men were arrested on Pearse Street yesterday when Gardaí seized €2million worth of cocaine. 31 Beds Go in Tallaght Hospital next Monday*

Sinn Fein's Dublin South West representative Sean Crowe has said that announcement of a cut in 31 beds in Tallaght Hospital is 'further proof if proof is needed of the deliberate Government and Health Service Executive's policy of downgrading Tallaght Hospital.The Tallaght based representative said that cuts will come into effect next monday, will affect patients and increase pressure mainly in the urology and orthopediac wards. O'Toole to propose agency workers motion on Dublin City Council

Dublin Sinn Féin Councillor Larry O'Toole will propose a motion at tomorrow's Council meeting that calls on the Government to enact legislation to protect agency workers. Speaking ahead of the meeting today Councillor O'Toole said Government failure to legislate for the principle of equal treatment of agency workers has resulted in employees being denied their rights and entitlements such as sick pay, holiday pay, overtime and rates of pay equivalent to permanent staff.
