Sinn Féin criticises Kitt's hypocritical comments on protecting heritage

South Dublin Sinn Féin representative Shaun Tracey has welcomed the news of the major re-development and restoration of Pearse Museum in Rathfarnham. However, Mr. Tracey criticised Government Chief Whip and Local TD Tom Kitt for his "hypocritical" comments in relation to protecting our heritage which he made while welcoming the project at Pearse Museum. Risk assessment must be carried out before work begins on Ballyogan Dump - Sinn Féin

Concern at growth of heroin trade

Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has said urgent measures must be put in place to prevent a heroin epidemic from hitting the streets. Deputy Ó Snodaigh, who was speaking after a record heroin seizure in Dublin; the Merchant Quay Project's report today of 1,700 new heroin injecting addicts; and, the seventh year-on-year increase in poppy harvest in Afghanistan said that these facts signal the extent of the drug problem in Ireland and the potential in the next few months that it will get worse and the need for immediate measures by the Government to ensure that the drugs crisis in Ireland doesn't get worse. Sinn Féin to seek political alliance in opposition to withdrawal of Shannon Heathrow route

Sinn Féin National Chairperson and MEP for Dublin Mary Lou McDonald has said Sinn Féin has agreed to write to the leaders of all opposition parties in a bid to form a political alliance against the withdrawal of the Shannon to Heathrow route. Ms. McDonald was speaking today after she led a party delegation including Martin Ferris TD and Maurice Quinlivan to meet with the Shannon Action Group to discuss the impact on Aer Lingus' decision to withdraw its Shannon to Heathrow route. Council should not restrict angling in Dún Laoghaire/Rathdown

People feel less safe in community according to Sinn Féin survey

Many people feel less safe in their local area and there is a huge demand for increased Garda patrols in local neighbourhoods according to a survey carried out by Sinn Féin across Dublin City on the issue of anti-social behaviour. The findings of the survey were used to partly inform Sinn Féin's submission to the Garda Policing Plan 2008 which was launched in Dublin today. Read full article

Sinn Féin calls for crackdown on serious drug and gun crime in Policing Plan 2008

Speaking at a press conference in Dublin this morning Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD called for a crackdown on serious drug and gun crime in the Garda Policing Plan 2008. Deputy Ó Snodaigh was launching Sinn Féin's Submission to the Policing Plan in which the party also calls for all future policing plans to work towards the establishment of an all-Ireland policing service. Ó Snodaigh expresses concerns over Press Ombudsman's ability to regulate industry

Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh has given a qualified welcome to the establishment of a new Press Ombudsman. Speaking today, as Dr. John Horgan was appointed as the Irish media's first Press Ombudsman, Deputy Ó Snodaigh said Sinn Féin is not overly optimistic about the new Ombudsman's capacity to regulate the industry because of the media's powerful position on the Press Council. Increase in overdose deaths highlights Government failure to tackle drugs crisis - Ó Snodaigh

Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh has said figures provided to him by An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern show that drug related deaths as a result of overdose increased by 32% from 2004 to 2005 alone. The TD was reacting to an article in the Irish Examiner today which showed a 20% increase in drug related deaths as a result of overdose between 2001 and 2004. Read full article

Government assault on Irish language continues - Ó Snodaigh

Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh has criticised proposals from the Minister of State with responsibility for integration Conor Lenihan in which he has called for the removal of Irish language requirements for civil servants. Deputy Ó Snodaigh said while he agrees with the need to increase the number of foreign nationals in the Civil Service this does not have to be at the expense of our own national language. Local Residents Opposed to Realignment of Malahide Road.

Councillor Larry O'Toole has pledged his support for residents of Snowdrop Walk in Darndale who are opposing the proposed widening of the Malahide Road within yards of their homes. The proposal would see a four lane carriageway being placed on the stretch of road that passes the Clare Hall Shopping Centre. Read full article
