Sinn Féin's Seán Crowe has said the issue of illegal immigrants in the US is one which will not go away and will have to be dealt with sooner rather than later. Crowe, who has visited the US on a number of occasions to lobby for immigration reform, was speaking today after the Immigration Reform Bill was defeated by the US Senate. He called for a renewed effort from all those involved in the campaign. Read full article

Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has called for a dedicated Garda Task Force to tackle the gangland feuds in the South Inner City. Deputy Ó Snodaigh was speaking this morning after a grenade attack on a house in Crumlin last night. Deputy Ó Snodaigh said the failure of the Government to re-target resources into tackling the feuds in the Crumlin and Drimnagh areas has led to the escalation of violence. Read full article

Speaking at a conference this morning on cocaine use, Dublin Sinn Féin MEP Mary Lou McDonald called on the new Junior Minister with responsibility for the Drugs Strategy and Community Affairs to formulate, resource and implement a strategy to tackle the growing cocaine crisis in Ireland. Speaking today Dublin Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh welcomed plans for a €1.3billion high capacity DART inter-connector for Dublin and expressed hope that this extension of the DART service will take a substantial amount of private cars off the road. Read full article

Speaking ahead of a conference this morning on cocaine use, which will be addressed by the new Junior Minister with responsibility for Drugs Strategy and Community Affairs Pat Carey, Sinn Féin Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD called on the new Minister to make a commitment, in his address to the conference, that he will immediately reverse the funding shortfall from Budget 2007 for local drugs services. Daithí Doolan, has today called on the Green Party Minister John Gormley to clearly and unequivocally state that he will stop the Poolbeg incinerator from going ahead or reconsider his position in government following Mr Gormely's apparent u-turn on the issue in response to a Parliamentary Question. Sinn Féin International Affairs spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has said the recent EU Summit has not been a success for ordinary people across Europe. Speaking in the Dáil today Deputy Ó Snodaigh said the summit further weakened EU democracy and smaller member-states in particular are further marginalised. Sinn Féin's Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has said news that the exchequer is to lose €500 million in tax revenues because of a sharp drop in the number of houses built in the second half of 2007 is no surprise. Ó Snodaigh said that repeated warnings from Sinn Féin about the dependence of the exchequer on revenue related to property and consumption have continued to be ignored. Read full article

Sinn Féin Councillor Dessie Ellis has called on the Government to directly intervene in a situation which has seen a group of Roma families, including 16 children, living on a roundabout at an exit to the M50. Sinn Féin's Seán Crowe has expressed his disappointment at the failure of the US Senate to pass a crucial Bill that planned to reform immigration laws to allow most undocumented immigrants, including thousands of Irish people, to remain in the US legally. Crowe, who has travelled to the US on numerous occasions to lobby of immigration reform, said today that the result of the vote will be a blow to the Irish community in the US and their families back home who have suffered throughout the years due to a the restrictions of non recognition. Speaking today Sinn Féin MEP Mary Lou McDonald welcomed the EU backed decision to reduce the cost of cross-border mobile phone calls. However Ms. McDonald said while this is a positive move it has not gone far enough. She said Sinn Féin wishes to see a single All-Ireland mobile phone tariff introduced to ensure that the border will no longer be a financial burden on mobile phone customers." Read full article

Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh has said one of the first priorities for the incoming Government must be to tackle the housing crisis by initiating a major housing programme to meet the needs of the many thousands of families on waiting lists throughout the state. A cross party community led campaign group was formed this evening at a public meeting in the Kingston Hotel Dún Laoghaire, called o discuss the future of St Michaels Hospital.
