Speaking in the Dáil today Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh said it is a disgrace that successive Governments failed to roll out a national cancer testing programme. Deputy Ó Snodaigh raised concerns about the company named as the preferred bidder to analyse smear tests for Irish women and about the implications for Irish technicians and laboratories of the export of this huge contract which he said should remain in Ireland. Following recent newspaper reports about the future of St Michaels Hospital, Dún Laoghaire Sinn Féin has organised a public meeting. The meeting will be addressed by the St Vincent's Health Care Group, the Irish Nurses Organisation and political parties. Read full article

Sinn Féin spokesperson on International Affairs Aengus Ó Snodaigh has said that Sinn Féin seeks to have neutrality enshrined in the Constitution, and that the party wants an immediate end to the use of Irish airports by US troops en route to Iraq or for illegal 'extraordinary rendition' flights. Dublin MEP and and Sinn Féin general election candidate for Dublin central, Mary Lou McDonald, has called for an Ombudsman for Older people. Ms. McDonald also said that if it was in Government after the general election, Sinn Féin would seek to abolish the means test for carers and substantially increase the Carers Allowance. Sinn Féin Dún Laoghaire representative and general election candidate Eoin Ó Broin has today called on the Sisters of Charity and St Vincent's Healthcare Group to clarify the future of St Michaels hospital in Dún Laoghaire. The call after St Michaels have confirmed to Sinn Féin that private developer Noel Smith has purchased the land surrounding the Hospital. This confirmation comes alongside worrying rumors that the site is about to be sold to private developer Noel Smyth. Read full article

The constituency currently has a population to TD ratio of 31,000:1 leaving it under-represented under the constitution. The case is being taken by Dublin West constituent Feargal Molloy. Sinn Féin Chairperson Mary Lou McDonald MEP, has said 'Equality is at the heart of Sinn Féin's agenda for government. We believe that the wealth created by the economic success of the past number years in Ireland should be used to create a fairer society and to eliminate poverty.' She said 'Government and Opposition parties who are claiming that they will deliver the public services that people are crying out for, while at the same time offering to slash the tax take, are being highly irresponsible. Councillor Larry O'Toole has expressed support for the parents, teachers and pupils of Gaelscoil Cholmcille in their efforts to be given basic teaching facilities on site. Currently the Gaelscoil in Whitehall has to operate out of the dressing rooms of the local football club. There are no proper classrooms, sanitary or recreational facilities. Read full article
