Dublin Sinn Fein Sinn Féin -- Building an Ireland of Equals

Turn your anger into positive action - Sinn Féin South Dublin by-election candidate Shaun Tracey

Published: 12 May, 2009

Sinn Féin South Dublin by-election candidate Shaun Tracey today launched a registration drive entitled 'Sick and tired of the government, well give them a good balloting on June 5th' outside the DIT college on Angier Street in Dublin. Speaking at the launch Mr. Tracey said, "My message to students today is a straight forward one. If you think the government is wrong to up 3rd level registration fees and to reintroduce third level fees then do something about it. Make sure you are registered to vote, and use that vote to get Fianna Fáil and the Green's out. Every vote against the government on June 5th is a vote for change."

Mr Tracey said:

"Sinn Féin stands shoulder to shoulder with the students of Ireland in opposing the Government's intention to reintroduce of third level fees. Education is not a commodity that can be bought and sold, nor is it a luxury reserved only for those who can afford it.

"But lets not kid ourselves Fine Gael would not do things any differently. Fine Gael has proposed a graduate tax, which is for all intents and purposes third level fees by a different name. The graduate tax is a scheme whereby students have their fees paid for upfront by the government and then pay back the amount owed through extra taxation.

"But my message today to students is this. If you are angry then do something about it. Your anger can be can be channelled into something positive. By voting Sinn Féin you are doing just that. We need a fundamental shift from the tweedle dum and tweedle dee politics offered by Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael. We need a new beginning.

"June 5th is your opportunity to begin fixing the wrongs inflicted by this government. June 5th is the day you can say we've had enough of cronyism and corruption. June 5th is the day you can make a difference and demand change.

"On june 5th give Cowen and Lenihan a kick where it hurts, right in the ballot box!". ENDS
