COMMUNITY NEEDS TO KNOW IF METRO WEST HAS BEEN SHELVED - Cllr. Donnelly
Dublin 15 Sinn Féin Councillor Paul Donnelly has called on the government
to clarify if the Metro West project is to be shelved. Commenting on the
matter, Councillor Donnelly said "I have asked my colleagues in Dáil Éireann
to ask the government to clarify if the proposed Metro West project has been
shelved. It is of deep concern that no information is forthcoming from the
government on this major infrastructural project. It is worrying that not
one word has been inserted in the recent launch of the Sustainable Economic
Renewal document that outlines the government's priorities in transport."
"I believe it is very important that we are told if this is going ahead
because its not just the provision of a major piece of transportation
infrastructure that is at stake here. There are also others anxiously
awaiting news about Metro West., most notably those of us wishing to see the
completion of the Millennium Park that is has already been on hold for a
considerable length of time."
"If it is put on hold then I believe that is gives the community and
political representatives a further opportunity to lobby for a change in the
route that is currently favoured by the RPA. It is inconceivable to those of
us who live and work in the community that the Metro would veer of at the
Blanchardstown Centre and up towards the National Aquatic Centre bypassing
thousands of residents and workers in Mulhuddart and Tyrrelstown".
"Sinn Féin will continue to campaign to ensure that this vital
infrastructure is delivered for the community and also that the proposed
route is changed for the benefit of all the community." ENDS.
